Definition
A grading option in which students receive either a 'Pass' (P) or 'Fail' (F) rather than a letter grade or GPA points. Passing typically requires meeting a minimum threshold (often a C or 60%). Courses taken pass/fail generally do not affect GPA. Some institutions allow students to take electives pass/fail; required major courses often cannot be taken under this option.
